Toy Swords

These are a couple swords I made as a Christmas present a few years ago for a friend’s kid. I always loved making swords when I was young, even though they were often just two pieces of wood glued together.

As a woodworker, I get a lot of joy making the toys that I would have loved to have as a kid. These swords are pictured as assembled, but I actually designed them as a kit, so my friend’s kid could assemble them himself.

I wanted to challenge myself to make them completely completely with carving tools, so I only used the two knives and two palm chisels in the photo.

They are a lot easier to make with a coping saw and ryoba saw. All you need is a piece of craft pine from Lowe’s, some glue, and some yarn and leather cord.

Please reach out if you would like to order one of these toy swords or schedule a lesson on how to make them.
